If a cushion cut diamond is fit for a Duchess (well, future Duchess) it has got to be good.
If you’ve been doing your research, you may have seen cushion or radiant cut diamond engagement rings cropping up more than before. The old school cut has been thrust back into popularity because of the Royal Engagement between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – and of course, the rather impressive trilogy ring that represents their commitment.
Diamonds come in a large variety of shapes (and endless combinations of the 4CS), but let’s swing the focus onto cushion cut diamonds because they’re about to become increasingly popular.
It's a New Year! Happy 2018!
Now we've put down the champagne glass and stopped celebrating the festive season / ringing in the new year, we need to commit to some of those resolutions and goals we said we'd think about. Perhaps we can give ourselves a reason to pick up the champagne glass once more - to celebrate an engagement?

Good things come in threes.
Lord of the Rings, three-piece suits, a three course meal. Three is the magic number for a good reason. Bespoke engagement rings seem to be the most-popular modern approach to that all-important piece of jewellery. Previously on the blog we’ve sought to help you get in the know about wedding ring styles, engagement ring tips, celebrity ring favourites and especially, engagement ring trends. One thing we’ve absolutely learnt is that perfect means personal. Prince Harry has absolutely proven us right, with a private proposal and an incredibly significant bespoke diamond ring.
The leaves are red and the frost is here, which can only mean one thing: we’re knee-deep in proposal season! Here at Hatton we’re working our way through all the important bits to know if you’re planning an engagement and wedding. Our Man’s Guide series is designed to get you in the know about everything – picking the ring, proposing, planning the honeymoon… And now, an often-overlooked big pick – the groom’s ring.
Let’s talk tradition. When it comes to wedding planning, the groom customarily plans elements like band hire and transport. Nowadays, it's more likely you'll want to combine forces when it comes to planning the big things. Organising the perfect honeymoon experience will take some of the pre-wedding pressure off your partner and put the two of you on equal footing from day one.
Firstly, you’re in luck – honeymoons these days don’t have to fit the criteria of sun, sea and sand, and can be in all shapes and forms. Research shows that younger generations generally prefer intimate, personalised gestures than traditional ones (definitely when it comes to engagement rings and proposals) and the honeymoon is no exception. Here’s what you can do to give your bride the ultimate newlywed getaway!
While nothing sparkles like a diamond, wedding fashion is the next best thing. Here at Hatton we want you to be in the know about all things engagement, and the most-important purchase (after the rings, of course) is the wedding dress.
So, if you’re deep in the midst of bridal gown indecision, let us fill you in on the biggest trends to come off the bridal runway this year. You might find something that inspires!

Everyone knows that the wedding dress equates to the ‘wow!’ moment; a bride wants to feel comfortable, confident and 100% beautiful in their day-of-dress. There are so many styles of outfit to suit the shape and personality of the wearer – yet admittedly, too much choice can be stressful and overwhelming. If you’re not totally clued-up on what fit, length, skirt (so many factors!) is your ideal, you’re not alone; a good designer understands that not every bride is a walking fashion guru!
A far remove from more mass-produced modern jewellery pieces, art deco jewellery is high in demand, stylishly limited and very, very popular at auction.
Celebrity engagements are often an exciting topic of chatter, especially those statement rings! Superstars’ jewellery picks often make the headlines – I’m sure we’ve all heard the recent buzz about Taylor Swift’s controversial diamond bath and Miles Teller’s exotic proposal, to name a few…
Anonymous polls are a brilliant way to gain insight, especially when it comes to special experiences such as marriage proposals. It’s so subjective – the ideal proposal features a different scenario for different kinds of people. The usual tricks and traditions tick boxes for some couples, and not others – although, the problems really arise when you and your partner are at odds!
We’ve definitely caught the Fashion Week fever that’s reaching cities all over the world, but it’s still a fair wait until London’s summer show starts on September 21. For now, we’ll just have to delight in the exclusive designs hitting the runways elsewhere.
The word Millennial has definitely caught on in the past several years and, apparently, so has the ardour of authentic diamonds. We approve!

Looking for a diamond ring? What’s hot and on trend this year?
Solitaire engagement rings will always be a timeless classic, however in 2017 we are seeing a rise in the popularity of multi-stoned rings. When choosing a ring, remember that it is going to last a lifetime, so my advice is that you need to be careful not to pick a style that will be a 2017 ‘fad’ but instead something that will stand the test of time.
